So...this week, as the deconstructing continues we learned that David, probably did not kill Goliath. I know you literalist out there might have just thrown up a bit in your mouth...But alas...Scholars question the position of the legend in the canon as possibly being added to the story to elevate the David Dynasty. Plus...There are two other places in the Hebrew Bible where there was a Goliath that was slain by one of David's mighty warriors. Amazing how even now, many rewrite history to make their personal situation bearable. Whatever...So sunday school is screwing us all up....
But really...is it important in the grand scheme of the wonders of God and Christ. Like I said last week....TRUTH BEYOND THE FACTS....Ain't seminary fun.... Blessings to you all and for those at CLC I will see you Sunday as we celebrate the Holy Spirit's work in our lives and the lives of our dear church.
Oh my! I've got to think on this one.
ReplyDeleteHaving attended some of your classes at C L C , I'd think you would be a great seminary TEACHER! ! ! OH MY! ! How many years and " grands " for that???See you at church tomorrow >>>>>
ReplyDeleteOkay....I agree - in the grand scheme of things this idea that David didn't kill Goliath isn't important - we can agree to disagree. Having said that...I can't resist.
ReplyDeleteWhere does that leave 2 Timothy 3:16? This speaks of God's active involvement in the writing of Scripture. Commentaries say it's "an involvement so powerful and pervasive that what is written is the infalible and authoriative Word of God." If all Scripture is God breathed...did God lie? Have a lapse of memory? Isn't God all powerful? Why would He make something up to make David look better? And what about Titus 1:2? It says God doesn't lie. My concern is this - if we start picking and choosing which parts of the Bible we will believe, where does it stop? How do we determine what to believe? Aw well...as I said, we can agree to disagree.
Maybe I can help Karen with this. God did not write these scriptures but gave people permission to write them for him.People made slip ups then, more so than they do today.Look at the writings today, especially the evangelists. Each one has a different outlook about the same subject and each denomination has their own version of how to interpret the same subject. I say that we have to pray for guidance and trust the answer that HE gives us.
ReplyDeleteIf David did do it, I wish we had him over in Iraq right now......Happy Sabath.....
